How it connects
Renttix connects to Sage Business Cloud Accounting over Sage's OAuth flow, against the current v3.1 accounting API. You authorise once from the integrations area; tokens are refreshed automatically just before they expire so long-running jobs never fail halfway through with an authentication error. Connection status is visible at a glance, and disconnecting revokes access immediately. What makes the Sage connection different from a simple invoice push is the mapping layer. Renttix reads your actual chart of accounts, tax rates, payment methods, payment terms and bank accounts out of Sage, and lets you map hire activity onto them — so rental income, damage recharges and delivery charges post to the nominal codes your accountant chose rather than to a generic default that has to be journalled later. You set the mapping once and it applies from then on. With mapping in place, the day-to-day movement is automatic. Customers push across to Sage, suppliers can be synchronised so purchase-side records match, invoices post with the correct ledger and tax treatment, and an invoice marked paid in Renttix is settled against the payment method and bank account you nominated.
Why it matters
Sage users tend to be businesses with an established accountant and an established chart of accounts. The objection to connecting any operational system is nearly always the same: it will post everything to the wrong place and make more work than it saves. That objection is usually correct, because most integrations offer a single income account and hope for the best. Hire businesses need more resolution than that. Rental income, sale of consumables, transport and delivery, damage and loss recharges, and sub-hire costs are genuinely different lines in a set of accounts, and a business that cannot see them apart cannot see where its margin actually comes from. Sage is one of five accounting connections in Renttix, alongside Xero, QuickBooks, Zoho and MYOB. Renttix also produces a Sage-format payroll export from its costed timesheet engine, so hours worked can reach Sage payroll alongside the sales ledger. Throughout, Renttix stays the record of hire operations and Sage stays the record of account — the integration keeps them consistent without merging them.
