How it connects
You paste your own PayPal Client ID and Secret into System Setup → Integrations → PayPal. Every API call Renttix makes is scoped to your connection — there are no shared platform credentials, and no Renttix account sits between you and your money. Access tokens are fetched per tenant and cached until they expire, so the connection maintains itself. Payment confirmations arrive back as webhooks, and each one has its signature verified before Renttix acts on it. That check matters more than it sounds: an unverified payment webhook is an open invitation to mark invoices paid that never were. Only genuine, PayPal-signed notifications settle an invoice.
Why it matters
A surprising number of hire customers — particularly sole traders, small builders and event organisers — would rather pay with PayPal than hand card details to a supplier they have used twice. Removing that friction at the moment someone is deciding whether to confirm a booking is worth more than it appears on the invoice. For you the benefit is administrative. The payment reconciles against the hire invoice it belongs to rather than arriving as an unexplained deposit that someone matches by hand at month end. And because it is your own PayPal account, your settlement times, your fees and your customer relationships all stay yours.
Key workflows
Pay a hire invoice
Customers settle an invoice through PayPal using their existing account, without entering card details or creating anything new. The payment is matched to the invoice it came from rather than landing as an unidentified receipt.
Verified settlement
Payment confirmations arrive as signed webhooks, and Renttix verifies the signature before marking anything paid — so an invoice can never be settled by a forged notification.
Your merchant account
You connect your own PayPal Client ID and Secret. Funds settle directly to you on your own terms, and disconnecting removes the credentials without affecting your PayPal account.
PayPal is one of eight payment providers in Renttix, alongside Stripe, Square, Razorpay, Mercado Pago, Xendit, Alipay+ and Airwallex — the mix exists because a hire business in Manchester, Jakarta and São Paulo does not want the same one. Whichever you use, settled payments feed the same invoice records that reach your accounting system.
PayPal integration FAQ
No. You connect your own PayPal merchant account, so funds settle directly to you. Renttix is not a merchant of record and never takes custody of your customers' payments.
Paste your PayPal Client ID and Secret into System Setup → Integrations → PayPal. Renttix obtains and refreshes its own access tokens from there; you do not need to manage tokens by hand.
No. Every inbound PayPal webhook has its signature verified before it is acted on. Notifications that do not verify are rejected rather than trusted.
