How it connects
You connect your own Stripe account to Renttix, which means the money moves directly between your customer and you — Renttix is not in the payment path as a merchant of record. Connection status is shown in the integrations area and the account can be disconnected at any time. Once connected you can charge a customer against a single invoice, settle several invoices together in one payment, or send a payment link the customer opens and pays from their own phone without an account or a login. Cards can be saved against a customer for repeat hires and deposits using Stripe's secure setup flow, so card details are held by Stripe and never stored in Renttix; a saved card can be removed just as easily. Payment status is verified back against Stripe rather than assumed, so what Renttix shows as settled is what Stripe actually took. Stripe Identity is available on top of the same connection. Where your policy requires it, a hirer is sent a Stripe-hosted verification link and completes the check on their own device — photographing their document and their face without your driver ever handling identification. Renttix records only the outcome. You set the policy centrally, and where a check is not appropriate for a particular customer it can be waived deliberately by someone with the authority to do it, rather than skipped quietly.
Why it matters
Hire has a payment problem that sales does not. You are handing over an asset worth many times the hire fee, often to someone you have never met, sometimes at a doorstep, and the money question is rarely settled at that moment. Deposits, damage, extensions and late returns all mean the amount owed is not finally known when the equipment goes out. Holding a card on file changes the shape of that risk. A deposit can be authorised properly rather than promised. A damage recharge can be taken against a card the customer already agreed to, instead of becoming a debt you chase for a month. And a payment link means a customer can settle from the cab of their van rather than waiting until someone is back at a desk. Identity verification addresses the other half. Equipment theft in the hire industry usually looks like a straightforward hire to a plausible customer who does not exist. Asking your driver to inspect documents at the door does not work: they are not trained to spot forgery, and the awkwardness of challenging someone in person means it rarely happens properly. Moving the check to the customer's own phone, before the asset moves, removes both problems.
Key workflows
Invoice payment and payment links
Charge a card against a single hire invoice or settle several at once in one payment. Where a customer would rather pay themselves, send a payment link they can open and complete on their phone — no account, no login. Payment status is confirmed back from Stripe rather than assumed.
Cards on file for deposits and damages
Save a card against a customer using Stripe's secure setup flow, so deposits and end-of-hire recharges can be taken against a card the customer has already authorised. Details are held by Stripe and never stored in Renttix, and a saved card can be removed at any time.
Identity verification before dispatch
Where your policy requires it, the hirer completes a Stripe-hosted identity check on their own phone before the equipment leaves. Your driver never handles documents, Renttix records only the outcome, and exceptions are waived deliberately by an authorised user rather than skipped at the door.
Stripe is the most fully featured of the payment connections in Renttix, which also include PayPal, Square, Razorpay, MercadoPago, Xendit and Alipay+ for the regions where those matter more. Payment status feeds the same invoice records that reach your accounting system, so taking a card in Renttix and reconciling it in Xero, QuickBooks or Sage are two ends of one flow rather than two jobs.
Stripe integration FAQ
No. Cards are saved through Stripe's secure setup flow and held by Stripe. Renttix keeps a reference that lets you charge the card again for a deposit or damage recharge, never the card number itself. You connect your own Stripe account, so funds settle directly to you.
No — that is specifically what Stripe Identity avoids. The hirer receives a Stripe-hosted link and completes the check on their own device before dispatch. Your driver never photographs, inspects or holds a document, and Renttix stores the verification outcome rather than the identification itself.
Yes. Verification is policy-driven — you decide centrally which hires require a check, based on the rules that fit your risk. Where an individual case does not warrant one, it can be waived by a user with the permission to do so, and that decision is recorded rather than invisible.
